Psychotherapy - While I use a variety of techniques based on different theories in order to help clients, my basic approach is a cognitive-behavioral approach that examines how our thoughts about ourselves and our lives influence our feelings and actions. I believe everyone has strengths they can use to work on issues and will try to help you identify and learn to use those effectively.
I see therapy as an active partnership and will work with you to set goals and treatment plans. I hope you will be an active participant, both in and out of our sessions.
Assessment - Psychological testing includes personality assessment in addition to evaluation of thinking and problem-solving ability, including both strengths and weaknesses.
Focused neuropsychological batteries, while often ineligible for full insurance coverage, can be life-changing. Many brain changes as the result of injury or progressive illness can be subtle and difficult for a client to describe. Functional neuropsychological testing can often investigate the presence and extent of cognitive difficulties, as well as describe adaptive strengths and methods for learning to compensate.
Other Services - Breathing and movement practices of yogic science and traditional Chinese medicine have been found to be effective complements for stress release, relaxation, and pain relief. These practices can be incorporated into individual sessions as advisable. Restorative yoga groups are held in sequences of four to six sessions. T'ai Chi Chih workshops are held on occasion throughout the year. Please see our Compassion Yoga tab for details.
